Motivational Monday: Career Happy

“The only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle.” – Steve Jobs.

When it comes down to deciding on a career path, I’ve always said that I want to pursue a career that will make me happy. At the end of the day, if you are not happy at your job, it impacts the rest of your life and the people around you. Too often I have seen people in their designated fields bitter and resentful. I made a promise to myself not long ago that I would always “do what I love, and love what I do.”

I think part of this comes from my belief that there is a distinct difference between an individual who works hard, and an individual who works hard with passion. I am well aware that some people end up in a career by chance. In other words, they took an opportunity when it presented itself and never looked back.

In a recent article by Edward James Herath, he made the ever pressing point that self-belief plays a huge role in success. I am a firm believer that everyone has the potential to be amazing if they believe they can. I think it’s crucial that in order to get to where you want to be, you must have the confidence and self-belief that you can actually get there.

So now you’re getting career advice from a 20-something PR Girl? Sort of. This Motivational Monday post is to foster up some inspiration for people who have yet to settle into their dream career. A few months ago I was traveling towards a career path I knew I wouldn’t be happy in – and it showed. There was a lack of dedication simply because I wasn’t passionate about the field. When I was given the opportunity to move to New York and pursue Public Relations, it was the complete opposite. The difference between then and now is my appreciation for learning more about the field everyday. I always want to stay “One Heel Ahead” … simply because I’m passionate about the industry. I encourage everyone to be patient, and stay focused. When things are meant to be, the pieces will fall into place.
